Behavior of a Muslim

Muslims must be extremely careful with their actions and reactions because whatever they do, they represent Islam. Below are some of the principles and universal values of Islam. If they are followed, they bring peace, happiness and success here and salvation in the hereafter:

1) “There are two qualities which are not found in the believer: miserliness and bad character.”(Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1962)

- Do not be a miser and be well behave

2) Abdullah bin Amr reported:
Allah's Messenger (pbuh) neither talked in an insulting manner nor did he ever speak evil intentionally. He used to say, "The most beloved to me amongst you is the one who has the best character and manners."(Sahih Bukhari #5.104)

- Do not insult others. Be morally and mannerly upright

3) "And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height."(QS 17:37)

- Do not be priggish (sombong) and self-righteous

4) "And do not turn your cheek (in contempt) toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful."(QS 31:18)

- Do not be self-deluded and boastful.

5) "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do."(QS 16:97)

- Be righteous

6) "O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice."(QS 33:70)

- Be just.

7) "...avoid the uncleanliness of idols (syirik) and avoid false statement (lies)..." (QS 22:30)

- Avoid syirik and lies.

8) "And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say (words of) peace."(QS 26:63)

- Treat other good even-though they treat you badly.

9) "O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers."(QS 49/11)

- Do not make mockery or ridicule others. Do not defame others and do not insult others by nicknames

10) The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise and when he is entrusted he betrays the trust.” (Sahih Bukhari #33)

- Do not lie, break promises and betray a trust.
